Point Repairs

Cured-In-Place Point Repairs

Small portions of damaged pipe are often uncovered during normal CCTV pipe inspections. In most cases, Point Repairs can quickly be installed before the damaged pipe can partially or fully collapse causing further emergency problems. Point Repair flexural and tensile strengths are equal to / or greater than specified by ASTM Standards.

Point repairs are small lengths of cured-in-place pipe installed to repair damaged or fractured sections of pipe in lieu of a full length manhole to manhole cured-in-place pipe liner or an excavated local repair.

Unlike full length cured-in-place pipe liners, point repairs are prepared at the installation site prior to installation. Instead of a heat cured resin, ambient air temperature cured resins are used, with catalysts added to allow adequate working time for placement. Cured-in-place point repairs can be designed & fabricated with different wall thicknesses and certain lengths as required. Resin saturated CIPP material is wrapped around an inflated packer, pulled into position guided by a CCTV camera system, then inflated to press the material tight against the pie wall and allowed to cure ambiently. When cured, the packer is deflated and removed.

Point Repairs

No matter the thickness of the point repair, there will not be an edge or lip at each end of the point repair. Excess resin will migrate from the material to form a smooth ramp or transition between (fill the void) the bladder and the liner material.

In some cases, a "flow through packer" can be used to install the point repair. A flow through packer allows sewerage to flow through the middle of the packer thus eliminating the need for bypass pumping during the point repair installation. Sewerage will not affect the resin as the resin is insoluble in water.

When the occasional cured-in-place pipe liner problem occurs, such as a lift, the lift is easily removed (ground out by robotic cutter) and a point repair is installed as a repair. This is an industry recognized solution to a CIPP liner lift problem.

Point repairs are often used to strengthen a pipe section where an excavated point repair (new section of pipe) has been installed. A cured-in-place point repair is installed, spanning the excavated point repair by several feet on each end that helps to reduce pipe stress on the connection points as the soil settles.

Hammertap Lateral Point Repairs

Point repairs can be installed at a lateral connection with the opening of the lateral connection reinstated by a robotic cutter after the point repair cures. This is a perfect repair where the lateral connection is a "punch through or hammertap" not at a proper pipe fitting, a poor method of connecting a sewer lateral to a main sewer line. Installation of a hammertap connect often results in circumferential cracking of the main sewer pipe that may ultimately lead to a collapse
